BIO - Statement
Ekin Bozkurt (Planul) is a sound artist, visual designer, and craft practitioner from Istanbul, currently based in Milan. In her sound art practice, she creates ambient soundscapes with varied textures using electro-acoustic and live-sampling techniques. To achieve this, she constructs unconventional sound design and noise instruments using contact microphones, assembling objects according to their different vibrational qualities.
Her creative process is shaped by learning through making sound and reflecting on what she discovers through hands-on experience. In her community-focused projects, she embraces the exploratory quality of instinctive, imperfect sound-making, treating any vibrational object as a site for experimentation and encouraging participants to contribute their own sonic ideas. Her fields of interest include artisanship, community building, micro-politics, and crafting as a feminist act.
Ekin holds a Master’s degree in Sound Art from the University of Barcelona, where she developed the thesis “Sound Art Movement for Creative Spaces,” a practice-led research project on the acoustic properties of industrial chimneys. Her installations, performances, and collaborations have been presented at Hangar and Convent de Sant Agustí (Barcelona); Casa degli Artisti and Zona K with Rimini Protokoll (Milan); Salt (Istanbul); and Herbert Gallery in Coventry.
