Wing Possibility http://ekinb.com/Wing-Possibility Sat, 14 Oct 2023 08:56:01 +0000 ekin 449052 home Wing Possibility [WIP], 2024 Wing Possibility is an audiovisual installation showed in a group exhibition in Herbert Gallery (Coventry, UK) in July 2024. WIP is a both utopic and distopic scenario in which a colorful but uncanny world is built. WIP is created as an indicator of endless possibilities: body transformation, infinite existential capacity, a broader sense of 'Is-ness' and a fresh earthliness in which the humans stay still and animals move even sometimes out of their natural characteristics. In the displayed work, a traveler (me / us) walks amidst still humans within wearable sculptures set in dreamlike scenes. The “I” or “us” who has the camera on their eyes and who is new to this world is visiting and observing each immobile human. The piece is one of the 12 selected works of ODD 2018. “One Drone Day is an immersive music festival which produces its 4th edition during an intensive 12h journey with no pauses. This sonic event is characterized by the absence of light/visual stimuli, mainly focusing on the auditive layer in an immersive mode.” Audience enjoys several live sets in horizontal position or a comfortable position. The audience and listening are central and artists are performing live sets along the perimeter of the room. Live Music Drone during 12h in a unique space with quadraphonic sound system for a relaxed listening, introspective and psiconautics. Drone music is characterized by the absence of rhythmic patterns. Sonic fluxes of variable intensity which develops narrative changes into microscale (textures, timbers, particles, etc) expanded in very large time scores. For "Cuentanos Tus Sueños," various objects and a musical instrument were placed in the courtyard of the Centre Civic Convent Sant Agusti in Barcelona. Visitors were given a written prompt: "Tell your dreams by making sounds." However, the event unexpectedly transformed into a sound workshop for children. This work captures the sounds produced by the children, who are frequent visitors to the courtyard. They contribute to shaping the contemporary history and dynamics of the Convent—an open public space for everyone and a playground for children. The "Radio Chimney", explores the transformation of Barcelona's historical industrial vapor chimneys into unconventional sound receptors that actively listen to the city. The project begins by venturing into these chimneys, capturing and recording the diverse sounds at various elevations, revealing an array of frequencies and phases. This serves as the foundational premise for the project. As an agent of disruption within daily life, the project seeks to enhance the creative value of public spaces, generating multiple opportunities for encounters between individuals and the immersive experience of creative sound. By shifting the perspective and purpose of these chimneys, they are transformed into captivating sound installations, offering a unique perspective and attribution to the urban soundscape. <img width="750" height="1334" width_o="750" height_o="1334" src_o="https://cortex.persona.co/t/original/i/52c417d13ee34b04ace15019eb138d4115e6cf130a2902ad2662269044c8d0da/IMG_0440.PNG" data-mid="1294495" border="0" /> The Radio Chimney, confronts the realization that a once functional urban landmark, the industrial vapor chimney, has now become a mere visual monument in contemporary times. This raises questions about the very nature and meaning of monuments. While preserving these chimneys as historical heritage is crucial, it prompts us to consider alternative methods of preservation beyond declaring them untouchable and impervious "monuments." Is it possible to provide them with a new purpose? One chimney, in particular, has been repurposed, hacked, to serve as a laboratory for sound experiments. By assigning a new functionality to the chimney, the project not only breathes new life into the structure but also encourages a reevaluation of its role within the urban landscape.
